Why Commission a Piece of Furniture?
There are many reasons why you may want to commission a piece of furniture. You may need it to fit in a particular space or to fulfil a particular function, or you may just want to not be part of the crowd and have something unique and not mass produced. Whatever your reasons for commissioning a piece of furniture it should be an enjoyable experience. The Brief You will have a reasonably clear idea of the function and size of the piece that you require and from there we can work in partnership to design the piece which meets your ideals. Cost Furniture handmade to commission will inevitably be more expensive than a mass produced item and you should have a clear idea of your budget for the piece. The cost will be determined by the complexity of the design and the materials and techniques used and will also include delivery. There is normally no charge for the design process, however a small fee may be payable for more distant locations or particularly complex designs to cover my expenses and I will let you know at the outset if this is to apply. Design Process After the initial contact I will visit you if necessary at a mutually convenient time so I can see the location for the prospective piece and gain a picture of its surroundings and we can discuss style colour etc. I will then work on the design and send you drawings and a cost for the proposed design for you to decide if you wish to proceed. |
